  • Three phenomena that I'm known for writing about are pregnancy loss, spousal chronic illness, and (as you know) math. I'm the author of 32 books, with 2 more forthcoming. My latest poetry books are "Stress Positions" (Alien Buddha Press) and "The Discontinuity at the Waistline: My #MeToo Poems" (Rhythm and Bones Press). In my retirement years, I write math-teaching limericks, and teach "adjunct" courses that I've developed; the most popular has been "Math in Literature". I'd love to hear from you!

    Poetry ⨂ maths ?

Marion Deutsche Cohen says: "I'm more passionate about math than about writing (though writing IS a passion). In fact, I believe that writing poetry BEGAN with writing what I called (back in my high school days) "poetic thoughts about math". My first poems, and also my first book, were "math poems". To me math expresses, better than anything else, what I call "the mysteries" and "the agonies and the ecstasies". (I have a poem in my book "Crossing the Equal Sign" (Plain View Press, 2007) of math-poems, about "the mystery of the known".) Many things inspire my writing, including my family and "thrift-store fashion", but math is possibly the bottom line."
